Italian designer and founder of the Valentino fashion house, Valentino Garavani, has died at the age of 93. This was announced by his foundation on Instagram.

Valentino Garavani passed away on January 19 at his residence in Rome, surrounded by loved ones. His funeral will take place on January 23, and a farewell to the legendary couturier will be held on January 21-22.
Garavani was one of the most influential designers of the 20th century. He was born on May 11, 1932, in Voghera, northern Italy. He studied fashion art in Milan, and later in Paris, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts and worked in the ateliers of Jean Dessès and Guy Laroche.
In1960, he established his own fashion house Valentino in Rome, gaining global fame thanks to his 1962 collection shown in Florence.
Garavani's designs were chosen by celebrities such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, and others.
Garavani openly acknowledged his homosexuality, and his partner was Italian businessman Giancarlo Giammetti.
