Alexander Rybak prepares again for Eurovision selection

The Norwegian performer of Belarusian origin will take part in the final of Melodi Grand Prix — Norway's national selection for the international Eurovision Song Contest, Norwegian media report.

Rybak made it to the list of eight finalists of the qualifying round, which will take place on February 28 in Lillehammer. One more finalist will be chosen by viewer voting.

Meanwhile, all nine competition songs will appear on streaming platforms as early as January 26. The exception here is Alexander Rybak's track Rise, which can already be listened to on platforms.

Alexander won the Eurovision contest in Moscow in 2009 with the song Fairytale, scoring more points than any other song in the history of the contest at that time.

In 2018, he participated in the contest again and took 15th place.

This year, Eurovision will be held in Austria (final on May 16). Ireland, Iceland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia decided not to participate in protest against Israel's participation.

Belarus has not participated in the contest since 2021. At that time, the band "Galasy ZMesta" was excluded due to the political subtext of their song, and since 2022, Belarus and Russia have been excluded due to the war in Ukraine.

Belarus's highest achievement at Eurovision is Dmitry Koldun's 6th place in 2007.

Нядаўна гэты хлопец у духу тожебелорусов і ў кароткім роліку заявіў, што не забыў роднай мовы. Але не беларускай, але расейскай.
