In the event of an attack by the United States, Iran will strike American bases in neighboring Persian Gulf countries, said Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an interview with Al Jazeera after talks with Washington in Oman.

«If Iran is attacked, we will strike American bases in the region,» he said.
Araghchi emphasized that such an attack would not be an attack on neighboring countries, as there is a difference «between attacking bases and attacking neighboring states.» He added that the risk of war exists, and Iran is ready for any scenario.
Indirect talks between Iran and the US took place in Muscat the day before, mediated by Oman. Araghchi called them «a good start,» reporting an exchange of views in a «positive atmosphere,» but noted that the continuation depends on «consultations in our capitals.»
At the same time, the parties agreed to continue the negotiation process, but the format and dates of subsequent rounds will be determined during further consultations mediated by Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi.
Araghchi reported that the talks held concerned exclusively the nuclear issue.
