Iran must "immediately stop" charging ships for passage through the strait, the US president said.
"They better not do it, and if they do, they better stop immediately!" the head of the White House wrote on his Truth Social network.
He also noted that Tehran is thereby violating a two-week truce agreement.
"Iran is doing a very bad job, which some would call disgraceful. This is not the agreement we have!" he emphasized.
In a later message, Trump assured that an increase in oil supplies from the Middle East would soon begin. "Very soon you will see oil start flowing - with or without Iran, and for me, it doesn't matter either way," he wrote.
Earlier, Hamid Hosseini, a representative of Iran's Union of Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Exporters, stated that during a truce with the US, Iran would require shipping companies to pay $1 for every barrel of oil in tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
However, payment would have to be made in Bitcoin, which would allow transactions to be hidden and avoid the risk of sanctions for shipowners. A tanker sailing without cargo would be able to pass through the strait for free.
