Remember the scandalous Ukrainian politician Oleh Lyashko? Here's where he is now
Ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleh Lyashko, has been appointed commander of the 432nd separate regiment of unmanned systems of the 11th Army Corps "East", informed sources of "Ukrainska Pravda" in the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

According to the publication's source, on May 6, 2026, by decision of the command of the Ground Forces of the AFU, Senior Lieutenant Oleh Lyashko was relieved of the post of battalion commander of unmanned systems of the 63rd separate mechanized brigade of the 3rd Army Corps of the operational command "East" with a staff-position category of "lieutenant colonel".
At the same time, Lyashko was appointed commander of the 432nd separate regiment of unmanned systems of the 11th Army Corps of the operational command "East" with a staff-position category of "colonel". However, there is no talk of Lyashko receiving the military rank of colonel.
Prior to this, in late April 2026, information appeared in the media that the battalion of unmanned systems of the 63rd separate mechanized brigade, headed by Lyashko, would be expanded to a regiment.
Oleh Lyashko is one of the most outrageous politicians of modern Ukraine, a former leader of the Radical Party and a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada for several convocations. As a political figure, he created an image of a "man of the people" who fights against oligarchs and elites. Lyashko was remembered by voters for his eccentric antics: he came to the Verkhovna Rada with pitchforks (which became a symbol of his party), ate soil on the rostrum, and often engaged in fierce verbal (and sometimes physical) clashes with opponents.
Assessments of Lyashko as a politician are quite contradictory. On the one hand, he was always criticized for populism and radical rhetoric, but on the other, his great charisma and ability to work with the electorate in the hinterlands were noted. However, in the last parliamentary elections, held in June 2019, all this did not help him: Oleh Lyashko's Radical Party garnered only about 4% of the votes and did not enter the Verkhovna Rada.
After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, Lyashko withdrew from active public politics and joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where he is serving. On October 11, 2024, he was appointed commander of a battalion of unmanned control systems of a separate mechanized brigade.
