Journalist Siarhei Satsuk Spends Fifth Birthday in Captivity. He Has Health Problems
On April 15, the former editor of "Ezhednevnik" turns 58 years old. The well-known investigative journalist is spending his birthday in captivity for the fifth time.

Siarhei Satsuk is serving his sentence in correctional colony No. 15 near Mahilioŭ. According to a former prisoner who served time in the same colony and was recently released, Siarhei's health has significantly deteriorated recently.
"He has big health problems. Regarding his heart, the doctor said he needs a pacemaker, without which every day is like a lottery. But no one in the colony will do this. Plus, he has serious problems with his pancreas and spine, and they don't allow necessary medications to be sent to him. He is having a very hard time," a source told Radio Svaboda.
Siarhei Satsuk, like other prisoners who have not yet reached retirement age, must work in production.
"He works in the industrial zone, pulling iron. There is no easy work there," the source noted.
Investigative journalist Siarhei Satsuk, editor of the Belarusian portal "Ezhednevnik" (ej.by), was sentenced in October 2022 to 8 years of imprisonment and a fine of 500 basic units (which was 16,000 rubles at the time).
The indictment against the journalist included three articles of the Criminal Code: Article 430 (receiving a bribe), Article 130 (inciting hatred or enmity), and Article 426 (abuse of power or official authority). Human rights defenders stated that there was a political motive in the persecution of the journalist, recognized him as a political prisoner, and are seeking his release.
