Alexievich told how deeply Statkevich once impressed her: "He accurately predicts new dangers"
Nobel laureate Svetlana Alexievich, in an interview with "Svaboda", commented on Mykola Statkevich's resonant warning about a danger that could turn our country's territory into a "death zone".

— Mikalai Statkevich, who spent about 6 years behind bars, refused to be taken out of Belarus, and then, after a stroke and a severe illness, managed to return home, started his Telegram channel and in one of his first texts wrote: 'Perhaps I survived to tell Belarusians about the great threat that Russia is deploying nuclear weapons in Belarus and can strike Europe from the territory of Belarus. And Belarus could become a target for a retaliatory strike.' How do you assess the threat that Mikalai Statkevich is warning about? — 'Svaboda' asked Alexievich.
— Statkevich makes an impression on me as a person who has a premonition of future times. I remember, in 2019, everything was still calm, he came to me and said: 'Svetlana, this is, in my opinion, the last spring we live in freedom. Soon there will be completely different times.' And I didn't believe him.
Somewhere less than half a year later, what he predicted happened. And now, I think, he very accurately predicts new dangers. This is true. We are becoming such a testing ground. Russia is pushing the dangers of a possible Third World War onto our territory, so that it would be with us first. Yes, he is right. I think such a danger exists.
