The accident occurred in the city of Dąbrowa Górnicza in the Silesian Voivodeship, in the afternoon on a road passing through a forest. According to police, the 57-year-old driver of the car swerved into the oncoming lane, where he collided with the cyclist, and then crashed into a tree. It is believed that the cause could have been a sudden deterioration in the driver's health or that he fell asleep at the wheel. The driver was sober and admitted his guilt.
Despite attempts by paramedics to resuscitate the victim, he could not be saved. A forensic medical examination showed that the cause of death was severe blood loss: important arteries, especially in the leg area, were damaged as a result of the impact.
Łukasz Litewka was 36 years old and a member of the "New Left" (Nowa Lewica) party. He became a Sejm deputy in 2023, unexpectedly receiving very high voter support, even though he was not in a leading position on the party list. Prior to this, he worked in local self-government in the city of Sosnowiec.
Litewka was known for his active public engagement: he organized fundraisers for sick children, helped animals, and supported social initiatives. The politician was very active on social media, and his activities were supported by a wide community.
The driver who caused the accident now faces criminal liability — from several months to eight years of imprisonment.
