Von der Leyen emphasized that there are already agreements between the European Union and the USA that must be fulfilled, first and foremost the trade agreement concluded last year already with the Trump administration:

"A deal is a deal, and we concluded it. And the essence of this deal is prosperity, common rules, and reliability," von der Leyen stated on Tuesday in Armenia.

Therefore, the European Union expects the fulfillment of previously agreed arrangements.

Earlier, Trump threatened to raise tariffs on cars from the EU from 15% to 25%, accusing Europe of violating agreements.

In response, von der Leyen noted that the U.S. has limitations that prevent it from independently increasing tariffs above a certain level.

She also reported that the EU is in the final stage of implementing a part of the trade agreement, which provides for the abolition of tariffs on a number of American goods. The corresponding law is still being considered in the European Parliament.

The European side is now demanding explanations from Washington regarding the new threats and simultaneously states that it is ready to respond if additional tariffs are introduced.
