"Meeting the demands of aesthetes." Arches resembling funeral wreaths, which angered Grodno residents, will be removed from the city center
Yury Karayeu, chairman of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee, announced the decision to heed the opinion of citizens and remove the disliked element of the city landscape somewhere further away from people's eyes.

"This year, some felt that the arches spoiled the architectural appearance of the old city. We launched a whole public discussion on this topic.
A decision has even been made by the head of the city administration, the chairman of the city executive committee: to relocate them, thin them out, and move part to another district. We will see how they settle in there and what the feedback will be. They are removable, mobile, you can flexibly play and vary with them.
At the same time, we are accommodating the wishes of aesthetes to see the result. And, of course, thanks to the mass media for helping to maintain feedback. We are always interested in the opinion of citizens and try to react," Karayeu explained the authorities' decision.
Earlier, it was reported that a discussion erupted in Grodno about the decorative arches that appeared on the main pedestrian street, Sovetskaya, in 2025. After a wave of criticism throughout the year, the city authorities decided to ask residents: leave the arches for the new season or remove them. The answer came quickly: within 24 hours, more than 1200 comments accumulated under the Instagram post – and almost all of them were negative.
