On Sunday, the largest number of illegal migrants since the beginning of the year attempted to cross the Belarusian-Lithuanian border
50 people attempted to cross the border.
Commenting on the new daily record set on Sunday for the number of illegal migrants attempting to illegally enter Lithuania from Belarus, Giedrius Mišutis, a representative of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service, stated that Lithuania will continue to face illegal migration as long as Belarus actively facilitates it, writes Delfi.lt.
"Illegal migration will continue as long as it is acceptable to the Belarusian side. This is organized migration, and it is carried out with the knowledge of Belarusian services. Events show that there are many illegal migrants in Belarus," Mišutis told the ELTA agency on Monday.
Border guards tracked about two dozen migrants from a helicopter. Among those who tried to illegally enter the country in several groups over the past 24 hours were 11 migrants who, in two groups at different locations, approached very close to the border but could not enter Lithuania.
