Young Smarhon pickpocket quit "Kronospan" and went to storm Kupyansk — now his mother is looking for how to get burial payments

"Nasha Niva" learned about another young Belarusian, born in the west of the country — in Smarhon — who chose the wrong life strategy and consequently ended it far to the east, storming Ukrainian positions near Kupyansk.

This is Siarhei Ivanov, 32 years old. His reputation among peers in the city is negative. They say he's been stealing since childhood. It's impossible to determine when he stole for the first time, but when he was caught for the first time — that can be identified.

According to Belpol, the first criminal case against Siarhei was opened in 2017, based on a complaint from drinking companions.

Two female workers of the auto-aggregate plant kindly invited Ivanov to their room in the workers' dormitory "for a joint consumption of alcoholic beverages." When the girls relaxed and lost vigilance, what did Siarhei do? He snatched 100 rubles from one of their handbags.

The next time Siarhei was caught in 2019 for taking someone else's bicycle from outside a grocery store in the city center — the owner was shopping inside at the time. It didn't take long to find the thief in small Smarhon.

The damage was again estimated at the same 100 rubles, but this was not enough for a penal colony.

Less than a year later, in early spring 2020, Siarhei upped the ante — he broke the lock of a garage in the courtyard of an apartment building with a piece of rebar. The only valuable thing inside turned out to be a set of old tools worth 75 rubles. Ivanov was caught again and again not imprisoned, although his previous conviction had not been expunged.

By that time, he had already been fired from his job as a loader in the state housing and communal services, because — on the one hand — he had completely lost trust, and on the other hand — there were also mysterious disappearances of tools.

Nowhere else would hire him, but the "Kronospan" plant, which makes large wooden panels that one person cannot carry or sell, took pity on him. They hired him as a loader.

But Siarhei did not abandon the idea of getting rich quickly. From his criminal escapades, he drew the main conclusion — you can't steal in the city, because there are witnesses and you'll be found. With this thought, Siarhei found an ideal victim — a house on the farmstead Charny Bor (Black Pine Forest), which no one lived in. The gamble really paid off.

Breaking into the house, Ivanov took out 9000 dollars, 700 euros, 2550 Belarusian rubles. Judging by the extract from the FSAN database, this was the most money Ivanov had ever had in his life.

But he didn't rejoice for long — he was caught again, and had to return it.

What happened in Ivanov's life from the summer of 2021, we don't know.

But the fact is — in early 2024, his relatives publicly started looking for him. The story seemed to be that Ivanov was going to return home. What he was doing in Russia is unknown.

One way or another, in 2025, Siarhei surfaced in the Russian First Tank Army (military unit 61899, 27th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade). He sent photos of himself in military uniform to relatives and acquaintances. But he didn't fight for long — on October 5, 2025, he went on an assault in the Kupyansk area, after which he lost contact.

What happened to him can be understood by the interests of Siarhei's mother, Nina, on social networks: on "VKontakte," she most often visits a consultative group for obtaining burial payments for fallen men.
