In Belarus, fewer than 6 children per 1000 people were born in 2025. Only South Korea, Ukraine, and the microstates Vatican and San Marino fared worse.

In 2025, 54,257 children were born in Belarus, according to Belstat statistics.
This is another anti-record — in 2024, 58,938 children were registered, which was also considered the worst indicator since the war.
Most children were born in Minsk (9543), Minsk region (9139), and Brest region (9285). The fewest were in Vitebsk region — 5773.
Compared to the year Alexander Lukashenka came to power, the number of births has halved. In 1994, 111 thousand children were born.
As a result, the total birth rate in Belarus dropped below 6 (calculated as the number of births per 1000 people).
Belarus's 5.99 is a catastrophic indicator. Only South Korea (4.76), Ukraine (5.65), and the microstates Vatican and San Marino fare worse globally.
Although in reality, the situation in Belarus is slightly better. It's just that the authorities have become hostage to inflating the population figures. If the number of births were recalculated not against the declared 9.1 million people, but against the actual 8-8.5 million (i.e., not counting Belarusians who have left the country), the indicator would look more presentable.
