Russian Billionaire Dies in Motorcycle Crash Near St. Petersburg
In Russia's Leningrad Region, prominent entrepreneur Mikhail Smirnov, whom Russian media call a billionaire, died in a road accident. However, he was only a ruble billionaire.

The accident occurred on May 20 in Priozersky district, on the Peski — Sosnovo — Podgorye highway. According to police, the motorcyclist on a Triumph lost control on a turn, veered into the oncoming lane, and collided with a Haval car. He died from his injuries before the ambulance arrived.
Later, various sources confirmed the identity of the deceased — it was Mikhail Smirnov, former co-owner and chairman of the board of directors of "Baltic Fuel Company". He was 53 years old and was soon to celebrate his 54th birthday.
According to Russian media reports, Smirnov was involved in large-scale business in the export of petroleum products and ship bunkering, and also participated in the management and development of a number of companies. His name appears in dozens of legal entities.
It is also noted that he previously headed various investment and financial structures and was associated with major Russian corporations.
In 2024, Smirnov ranked 108th in the rating of Russian billionaires according to the publication "Delovoy Peterburg" with a capital of 7.79 billion Russian rubles (about 109 million dollars). His main asset was named as the company "Neva Oil".
