Political prisoner journalist Kiryl Pazniak discharged from emergency hospital

Political prisoner Kiryl Pazniak has improved; he has been transferred from the intensive care unit of the emergency hospital to the medical unit of Minsk pre-trial detention center No. 1, where treatment continues. This was reported to Radio Svaboda by a source familiar with the political prisoner's affairs, who asked not to be named for security reasons.

According to the source, a letter from Kiryl Pazniak with this information was received a few days ago.

"Yes, he was very ill on the eve of the trial, he reported in the letter that he couldn't breathe, he was in intensive care at the emergency hospital. Now he is better, already in the medical unit of the detention center. But treatment for his lungs continues," — the source reported, referring to Kiryl Pazniak's letter.

According to the source, the journalist is accused of "organizing an extremist formation" and "discrediting Belarus". Pazniak's trial was supposed to start on May 14, but was postponed and the time for a new session has not been set, the source reported.

On May 22, his former wife Alena reported that Kiryl Pazniak was hospitalized with pneumonia after previously contracting coronavirus. According to the woman, this happened a month ago.

Kiryl Pazniak was detained on September 4, 2025. At that time, the KGB declared the YouTube channel "Platforma 375" an "extremist formation," and named the journalist as the "organizer" of this "formation".

On the same day, human rights activists reported that Kiryl Pazniak's 20-year-old daughter, Yanina Pazniak, was also detained. She is also in custody and has been charged with interacting with an "extremist formation".

In 2021–2022, the channel hosted several debates between pro-government propagandists and their opponents who were forced to leave the country. The last broadcast took place on December 3, 2022, featuring Ryhor Azaronak (STV), Yury Tserakh ("SB. Belarus Today") — in Minsk, as well as Aleh Talerczyk (co-founder of the organization of former law enforcement officers "BYPOL") and host Dzianis Dudzinski.
