Funeral Businessman Got Into Trouble For Only Employing Women

In the Brest region, an individual entrepreneur offering ritual services faced court after a tax inspection. The reason for the attention to his business was an unusual situation: only women were officially employed, even though the work required heavy physical labor, reports the Ministry of Taxes and Duties.

As it turned out during the inspection, the entrepreneur provided ritual services — organization of funerals, sale of coffins, wreaths, candles, and crosses. However, part of the work, related to digging graves, carrying coffins, and accompanying the deceased, was physically demanding. This raised suspicions among tax authorities, as it was unlikely that such work would be performed exclusively by women.

The inspection conducted by the bodies of the Ministry of Taxes and Duties of the Republic of Belarus for the Brest region showed that the entrepreneur was actually employing at least two men, but did not officially register them. They were paid money "in envelopes" — without accounting in financial documents, without withholding taxes, and without payments to the social security fund.

The court recognized such actions as a violation. The entrepreneur was fined 50 basic units (approximately 2250 Belarusian rubles at that time), as well as confiscation of part of the income obtained from illegal activities — about 5%, which amounted to almost 9763 rubles.

In addition to the fine, he was also instructed to pay taxes for the employees he did not officially register, including income tax and mandatory contributions. In total, the unpaid tax liabilities exceeded 16.5 thousand rubles.
