Zelenskyy in Ankara: Do you really think it's right for a country with such experience to remain outside NATO?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during his speech at the NATO Defense Industry Forum held in Ankara, stated that Ukraine has unique experience in modern warfare, and its defense and security capabilities will significantly strengthen NATO if it becomes a member of the Alliance.

"I have a question for you: do you really think it is right for a country and a people with such a level of defense capabilities to remain outside NATO? If we already have such capabilities, if Ukrainians have already learned to fight in such a way, then it is entirely logical for these capabilities to become part of the Alliance's collective defense. This will make all of us stronger," Zelenskyy said.
He noted that Ukraine and NATO already see each other as reliable partners.
"And it would be entirely natural to become part of a single security community. Considering that we will remain close to the source of the threat – Russia – for a long time, Ukraine in NATO will mean the emergence of an exceptionally strong defense capability," stressed the President of Ukraine.
To confirm his words, Zelenskyy reminded that the Defense Forces of Ukraine destroy about 30 thousand Russian soldiers every month.
"Only in June, almost 28 thousand Russian military personnel were eliminated. And we have video confirmation of every such case. The vast majority of them were hit by drones. And, frankly, we are not proud of this at all. I am saying this only to show what modern war looks like. This is a war that we did not start, but which we are forced to wage to defend our country, our people, and our children," explained the head of the Ukrainian state.
According to him, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have increased the interception rate of Russian "Shahed" type drones to over 90%.
"This means that every week we shoot down thousands of Russian attack drones. And with all due respect, no other country has had experience defending against drone attacks on such a scale. The reality of this war has forced us to create such capabilities. Today, we defend against hundreds of attack drones daily and nightly, as well as thousands weekly and monthly. Ukraine's defense sector has developed these capabilities during the full-scale war," Zelenskyy noted.
He also mentioned the campaign to ensure the security of the Black Sea with the help of naval drones.
"These are no longer just attack drones designed to destroy Russian warships at sea. Our naval drones have already turned into multi-functional platforms capable of striking various targets from the sea, both on land and in the air," Zelenskyy noted.
According to him, Ukraine is simultaneously fighting in the sky on two key fronts: protecting people from Russian attacks and carrying out long-range strikes on Russia in response to this war, as well as hitting targets throughout the depth of the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
With all this experience, as Zelenskyy noted, Ukraine will significantly strengthen NATO if it becomes its part.
