The meeting between the Presidents of Ukraine and the USA, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump, took place on September 22 in New York, during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. It lasted about 40 minutes.
Before the start of the closed talks, Zelenskyy stated that the war must be ended as soon as possible, even before winter. Trump expressed hope for an agreement and said that Russian President Vladimir Putin allegedly wants to meet with the Ukrainian leader.
Zelenskyy noted that he hopes for Trump's help in ending the war and believes that it should be done as soon as possible, before winter begins. Trump also stated that he expects an agreement on ending the war. According to him, something will definitely happen, and an agreement can be reached.
Another topic of the negotiations was Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refining and fuel infrastructure. Trump stated that he intends to discuss this issue with Zelenskyy. He noted that the attacks, in his assessment, were a serious blow to Russia and affected the rise in diesel fuel prices.
When asked about the possible production of Patriot missiles in Ukraine, Trump answered cautiously, noting that this issue is currently being discussed.
"Possibly. We are talking about it. Very capable production. We talk about it all the time. Very capable people," he added.
The open part of the meeting lasted about seven minutes. After talking with journalists, the negotiations went into a closed format and continued for another half an hour.
Participating on the American side in the meeting were Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Trump's special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.
The Ukrainian delegation included Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, and head of the "Servant of the People" faction in the Verkhovna Rada, David Arakhamia.
