Journalists Banned by Trump from the White House Are Once Again Permitted Entry
American TV channels MS NOW and CNN reported on September 24 that their journalists were once again allowed to work in the White House. This happened a few hours after a court blocked President Donald Trump's decision to exclude these media outlets from access to the US President's residence.
Last week, Trump stated that he was revoking CNN, MS NOW, and Politico's access to the White House. He explained this by saying that, in his opinion, these media outlets were spreading false information about himself and his administration. The next day, journalists from the aforementioned editorial offices were indeed not allowed onto the complex grounds.
On September 21, the editorial offices filed a lawsuit against Trump. They stated that the ban violated the freedom of the press guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
On the night of September 23-24, a federal court blocked the president's decision and ordered the reinstatement of accreditation for journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico. The judge deemed that the ban on these media employees' access to the White House likely contradicted the Constitution. Access was ordered to be restored for at least two weeks, while the court continues to hear the case.
However, on the morning of September 24, journalists from Politico and MS NOW, as well as some CNN employees, were initially again not allowed into the White House.
The judge set 12 PM Washington time as the deadline for restoring access. Shortly before this deadline, the White House complied with the court's decision and restored journalists' access.
