Kyiv Fights over Law on Languages

The new law adopted by the Parliament caused clashes with police.

Protesters against new law on languages clashed with police near ‘Ukrainian House’ in Kyiv downtown, where the press conference with Vladimir Yanukovich was scheduled for 11 AM, BBC reports.

Ukrainian opposition remonstrates against the newly adopted law which allows local authorities use local languages (and not only Ukrainian one as it was previously) if there are at least 10% of speakers who use language other than Ukrainian.
