Homemade wasp trap
If wasps still bother you at the dacha, you can make your own trap for them. Simply unscrew the cap from a plastic bottle, cut off the neck, pour water mixed with sugar into the bottle, and then invert and place the cut-off part back on. Place the structure prepared in this way in areas where household members are not often present. Wasps, lured by the sweet smell, will fly inside and won't be able to fly out.
Keep an eye on food and tidiness
Close all food products tightly and store them in a safe place. Uncovered food should not be left in open areas. Do not leave crumbs and food scraps on the table, nor any food waste. Seal all holes, cracks, and construction voids in the house so that wasps cannot nest in them.
Install mosquito nets
Wasps love to build their nests where people frequent, for example, around terraces, in roof eaves, as well as in attics and mansards. Attracted by sweet smells, they try to fly into the house, usually into the kitchen, and can attack people who are near the nest. To prevent them from flying into the house, you should install mosquito nets on the windows.
How to effectively deal with wasps?
If you discover a wasp nest close to your home, you should eliminate it as soon as possible. If you decide to do it yourself, be sure to take all precautions. Wear appropriate protective clothing that covers your entire body and protects against stings. Pay special attention to tightly covering your face, head, and hands. The best time to destroy a wasp nest is late evening, when wasps are sleeping or resting. Remember that the sooner you discover the nest, the easier it is to eliminate. A newly formed nest is the size of a tennis ball, and the number of wasps in it is small.
Look for nests in the attic, garage, pantry, wall cavities, or under roof eaves. Those built in the ground can be destroyed by pouring boiling water over them, and those inside buildings can be exterminated with chemicals like Dichlorvos.
However, if you are allergic to stings, you should not remove the nest yourself. Enraged wasps can sting you. It's better to ask someone who is not afraid of wasps to do it.
