On December 13, the young animal, to avoid danger, climbed onto a metal pole on a traffic island. The bus driver, seeing the risk to the animal, covered the koala with a jacket and carried it into the cabin, where Perry sat on the handrails and calmly waited for help.
Rescuers were called to the scene and, after an initial examination, sent the koala to an animal welfare organization. The next day, specialists confirmed that the animal was healthy.
Briann Barclay, head of Koala Rescue Brisbane South, thanked the bus driver for his caring attitude towards the animal. Perry is a young individual, over a year old, already quite independent.
On December 14, Perry was released into the Seven Hills green zone, not far from where she was found. Brisbane Mayor Adrian Schrinner noted the driver's excellent deed and urged residents to contact rescuers in case of danger to animals, noting that such an incident only confirms the city's "peculiarly Australian character."
Rescuers warned that koalas can be aggressive due to their claws and advised against picking them up, instead leaving rescue work to specialists.
