State media silent on victims of Homiel explosion to avoid negativity during All-Belarusian People's Assembly?

As Nasha Niva learned, the main cause of the tragedy at the moment is considered to be the explosion of low-quality equipment during the installation of suspended ceilings. But it must be understood that there were people in the apartment. What happened to them is unknown.

A day before the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, in the midst of its informational prelude, an explosion rocked a ten-story building in Homiel. The entrance block stood, but the upper floors will be dismantled to replace damaged structures. Today, it would be time to report the causes of this extraordinary incident, the number of injured, and the presence of fatalities. But state resources are twisting into allegories and equivocations, going beyond common sense.

On December 17, a "gas-air mixture" exploded on the 7th floor of a ten-story building in Homiel on Kosarava Street, causing several floor slabs to collapse. One of the concrete slabs almost flew out onto the street.

In the first hours after the incident, it was indeed unclear whether there were victims under the rubble and how many. But state media prematurely began to downplay the scale of the event: "no one sought help from hospitals or ambulance doctors," while simultaneously stating: "the only thing is, three people were hospitalized."

In the evening news on ONT, the explosion was mentioned only at the sixth minute. The presenter reported that work was underway to search for victims and determine the causes of the incident. It's almost a day, and there are no updates on this topic.

In the morning, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) published a video of search operations with dogs, accompanying it with the comment "no live people found under the rubble." What about the dead?

The preliminary cause of the incident has not been announced either. However, from the first photos published, it is clear that the epicenter of the explosion was not in the kitchen: the floors collapsed under a living room, and its wall was almost thrown out onto the street.

Also, judging by the ceiling leveling structures on the balcony of the affected apartment, it can be concluded that renovations were being carried out there.

As Nasha Niva learned, the main cause of the explosion at the moment is considered to be the explosion of low-quality equipment during the installation of suspended ceilings.

But then it must be understood that there were people in the apartment. For example, a similar incident occurred in Drahičyn in 2019. At that time, two workers and the apartment owner ended up in intensive care.
