Poczobut's father: Whatever Andrzej decides, we will accept it and support him
Andrzej Poczobut is once again in isolation. This was revealed in an interview with the Polish portal WP Wiadomości by the imprisoned journalist's father. Wanda and Stanislaw Poczobut received the last letter from their son on the eve of Christmas, BAJ reports.

In the interview, Stanislaw Poczobut says that the family had high hopes that Andrzej Poczobut would be among the group released in December:
«We quickly read online that he wasn't there. And my soul became very bitter. In November 2025, Poland opened the border crossing in Bobrowniki, which had been closed after our son's sentence. We thought this would positively influence Andrzej's fate. But it didn't work out again.
My wife and I are left alone, we are quite old now. We hardly go anywhere. Except for a walk around the house, but it's heavily snowed in now. So what to do? We literally sit and look out the window. Every day — anxiety. It's hard for us to come to terms with the thought that we cannot help our son. We are helpless. Sometimes I think that when Andrzej was a little boy, we, as parents, could take care of him. But what can we do for him now? Nothing.»
The journalist's father is skeptical about US involvement in negotiations for Andrzej's release: «Lots of noise, but mostly for newspapers and television. This noise yields no results. All the concern was handed over to a gentleman from overseas (…).
There are no great efforts from the US side for Andrzej's release. He doesn't matter to them. There's big politics and a 'small' man. (…) Foreign Minister (of Poland) Radosław Sikorski — a well-known politician, travels the world, tries to free Andrzej. And what? Nothing comes of it.
As I said, this is big politics. Andrzej here is a small pea. A small coin used to pay in a shop. A cog in a huge machine. Lukashenka rules in his country, and few can do anything about it.»
Stanislaw Poczobut does not know if Andrzej really refused to write a pardon request to Lukashenka, as reported by several sources, but «we do not believe that Lukashenka offered Andrzej anything now»: «And even if an offer appeared, our son would still not accept it. He would not betray his ideals.»
«We know Andrzej's position. Whatever he decides, we will accept it and support him. As I have said many times, I am very proud of my son. If I saw him, I would kneel before him in admiration of the stand he has taken. Of his stubbornness. Although more than once I thought that the price he is paying for his ideals is too high. This is his whole life. When Andrzej was arrested, his son was 120 centimeters tall. Today — 190,» said Stanislaw Poczobut.
Stanislaw is 83, Wanda is a year younger.
«Our hope is like sea waves. From time to time there are high and low tides. Sometimes it seems that Andrzej is about to get out of prison. And then the low tide comes again and silence falls. All this is very unstable. It's very difficult for us. All our thoughts revolve around Andrzej. My wife and I take sedatives. I try to 'walk off' my fear for my son. Every day I walk 10 thousand steps in our small apartment and feel like a caged animal. My wife checks the mailbox every day — to see if anything has arrived from Andrzej.»
