Ministry of Energy: People should understand the reduction of temperature in apartments
Deputy Minister of Energy Sergei Adamenka on the "Belarus 1" TV channel spoke about how heat is supplied to homes during severe frosts, reports BelTA.

According to Sergei Adamenka, the heat supply schedule depends on the ambient temperature.
"We try to follow these schedules, as they must be smooth to avoid sudden pressure and temperature drops, which could damage heat engineering and heat transfer equipment. However, taking into account the head of state's remark, which we have certainly considered, we have planned a reduction in the temperature schedule to avoid heavy loads on the equipment and, at the same time, ensure social living conditions for people.
The temperature in citizens' premises and apartments during severe frosts will be somewhat reduced compared to how it was practiced before. But these will still be comfortable conditions, and citizens should treat this with understanding," he explained.
"Of course, there will be heat — plus 18 degrees and above must be maintained. These are social standards. We are, of course, not accustomed to such uncharacteristic frosts as this year. Our citizens are used to having 22-25 degrees of heat in their apartments. But these are heavy loads on the equipment," Sergei Adamenka emphasized.
According to him, in winter conditions, when the air temperature stays around zero degrees, the loads on the equipment are lower. "But now, when the air temperature reaches minus 20-25 degrees, there is an enormous, unbalanced load on the equipment of stations and heating networks. We are forced to adjust modes to reduce this load and preserve our equipment," added the Deputy Minister of Energy.
"When the ambient air temperature drops, heat consumption naturally increases. If we talk about maximum loads, we have probably reached our peak in the last 7-8 years — 7.3 thousand megawatt-hours. Last year, this figure was 6.7 thousand megawatt-hours," summarized Sergei Adamenka.
Let us also remind that two weeks ago, Alexander Lukashenka, commenting on the situation with the damage to the heating main in Sukharava, which led to the cessation of heat supply in several areas of the city, proposed reducing the temperature of the heat carrier supplied to apartments to 80 degrees.
"Well, if the pipes had water not at 90 °C, but at 80 °C, and the pressure was lower, the room would be a bit colder. Not 25 °C, but 20 °C. That's enough for a home," he noted then.
