According to Andrey Lyubimov, last year the Minsk region experienced a difficult situation with road traffic accidents: 741 accidents occurred, in which 115 people died and another 823 received injuries of varying severity. More than 319 thousand violations of traffic rules were recorded, a significant part of which were committed by pedestrians and cyclists, including those under the influence of alcohol. More than two thousand intoxicated drivers were also identified, who caused dozens of accidents with human casualties.
To reduce the accident rate in 2026, it is planned to continue preventive and explanatory work, strengthen control, including with the use of drones. The State Automobile Inspectorate of the Minsk Region has approved several subprograms aimed at increasing road safety. They provide for the implementation of hundreds of engineering solutions: installation of road barriers, equipping pedestrian crossings with lighting, construction of roundabouts and new traffic lights in dangerous places.
In addition, on the initiative of the traffic police, a laser notification system will appear on the M1 (Brest — Minsk — Russian border) and M4 (Minsk — Mogilev) highways, which will attract drivers' attention and prevent emergency situations, including those related to fatigue and falling asleep at the wheel.
