Kabul claims that this is a response to the airstrikes Pakistan carried out on Sunday night in the Afghan provinces of Nangarhar and Paktika. According to the UN mission in Afghanistan, at least 13 civilians died as a result of those strikes, while Afghan authorities report 18 dead. The Pakistani side previously stated that more than 80 militants were eliminated in the airstrikes.
No official comments from Pakistan regarding the new operation have been received yet.
Islamabad explained the airstrikes as a response to a series of terrorist attacks in Pakistan carried out by suicide bombers. Pakistani authorities accuse the "Taliban" of not preventing militants from crossing the border and operating in Pakistani territory. The Afghan side rejects these accusations.
