Iran has conveyed a proposal to the US to open the Strait of Hormuz and end the war, postponing discussions on the nuclear program to a later stage. Axios reports this, citing sources.
As the publication notes, the Iranian leadership cannot reach a consensus on what concessions it is willing to make regarding the nuclear program, and diplomatic efforts have reached a stalemate.
Tehran's new proposal allows this issue to be bypassed for a quicker deal, but the White House might not be satisfied with such a scenario due to the loss of leverage, writes Axios.
Earlier, in an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that he intends to continue using a tough naval blockade, expecting that stopping oil exports would force Iran to make concessions in the coming weeks.
