Aliaksandr Lukashenka, answering journalists' questions after the EAEU summit in Astana, advised Armenia to be careful when choosing between the EAEU and the EU, writes BelTA.
"We are not pressuring the people, moreover, we understand that there is a political game here — tomorrow are elections in Armenia (parliamentary elections will be held in Armenia on June 7. — NN). Naturally, this is being stirred up for the elections. But the leadership of Armenia is acting in vain. This amounts to humiliating the Eurasian Economic Union."
"Armenians need to be very careful, so that, God forbid, they do not repeat what happened in Ukraine... In Ukraine, it all started this way. You remember that, — Lukashenka stated. — So that they, Armenians, who have just come out of one war, do not get into a difficult situation in this regard. There is no need to rush. One just needs to think, one needs to be wise people."
Lukashenka complained that Europeans "promised a whole bunch" to Armenia.
"Although we didn't hear these promises, there were only condemnations: «Belarus and Russia are such-and-such». Of course, we are not perfect, what can I say. But look at yourselves."
Earlier at the summit in Astana, Vladimir Putin hinted at future problems in Armenia if it were to draw closer to the EU. "The crisis in Ukraine once began with attempts to join the EU," — said Putin.
