Chief Nurse of Baranovichi Central District Polyclinic Sentenced for Politics and Fired

Volha Kazlouskaya dedicated over 20 years to medicine, received awards from the regional executive committee, and managed the mid-level medical staff of the polyclinic. It has now become known that she was criminally prosecuted. Although Volha was sentenced to home detention, another person now holds the position of chief nurse.

Volha Kazlouskaya is 48 years old. She lived her whole life in Baranovichi. In her youth, she dreamed of becoming a lawyer and even planned to study abroad. But, as she herself told the local newspaper "Nash Kray," she met her future husband and stayed in her hometown, where, to her parents' delight, she graduated from medical college.

Volha's career in medicine began as a district nurse. Over the years, she rose to become the senior district nurse of therapeutic department No. 2 of the Baranovichi Central Polyclinic. Her diligence was noticed by the management: in 2016, Kazlouskaya was among the best doctors in the city, who were solemnly awarded certificates from the Baranovichi City Executive Committee on the eve of their professional holiday.

The woman herself says she loved her profession for the opportunity to help people.

Over time, Volha's career climbed even higher — she took on the position of chief nurse of the central polyclinic, essentially managing all mid-level medical staff of the institution. In this role, she became a prominent administrative figure, participating in the life of the team and solemn events.

In 2021, Kazlouskaya was recognized at the regional level — she was awarded an honorary certificate from the main health department of the Brest Regional Executive Committee.

However, it recently became known that the woman was convicted in the Brest Regional Court. It is unknown when she was detained, but it happened last year — she was removed from her position and replaced by another person.

Volha was found guilty under parts 1 and 2 of Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, assistance to extremist activities. Lately, this article is usually used to prosecute for transferring information to the chat-bot of the Belarusian Hajun project.

She was sentenced to home detention.

"Belaruski Hajun" is an OSINT monitoring project that was created in 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine through Belarus. The project tracked the military activity of Russian and Belarusian troops, relying on information from Belarusians. Its activities were coordinated by a group of activists led by Anton Matolka.

The Hajun case began after security forces detained an activist who had lived underground in Belarus for several years. A link to join the Hajun bot, which had been sent to her at the very beginning of the project's existence, was found on her mobile phone. The fatal error was that the link was permanent. Therefore, the security forces were able to connect to the bot and extract all information from it. They obtained messages from accounts that wrote to the bot, as well as their IDs and usernames.

The founder of Hajun, Anton Matolka, immediately after the hack explained how the information leak occurred and announced the closure of the project.

The Belarusian authorities consider "extremism" to be subscriptions to independent channels, media, the presence of links to them on social networks, or the presence of Belarusian national, pre-Lukashenka symbols on social networks or items. "Extremism" also includes practically any criticism of the authorities, official historical narratives, or expressions of solidarity with Ukraine. Many recent criminal cases under the article on "assistance to extremism" have been related to the "Hajun case."
