“Then they will make separate carriages, like in Iran?” A Belarusian was outraged by "women's" compartments on trains
Belarusian Aliaksandr complained on social media about being unable to buy a train ticket from Baranavichy to Minsk. Free seats on the train, which was traveling on the Brest — Moscow route, were found only in a women's compartment, so the man could not purchase a ticket, writes Onliner.

Aliaksandr spoke about the situation in Threads. According to him, on the train departing on May 17, two free seats remained in one of the carriages, but the system indicated that they were designated only for women. This moment greatly angered the man:
“Then, probably, they will make separate carriages, like in Iran. Is this some kind of campaign for the Year of Women — 2026? I need to buy a ticket, free seats are only available for "W". What, won't they let me in?”
The publication quickly spread on the social network: it has already gained almost 200 thousand views and hundreds of comments.

Many female users supported the practice of separate compartments for women. They noted that they often feel uncomfortable or unsafe when traveling in the same compartment with unfamiliar men, and shared personal stories of unpleasant situations on trains.
“Show me at least one woman who would want to travel with unfamiliar men.”
“I have never traveled in peace and quiet with men in a compartment. For some reason, they all think they need to talk a lot with me, crack idiotic jokes, flirt, etc. Although I gave up on trains, thank you for the appearance of women's compartments.”
“And has the idea of separating women and men never bothered you before? Why do you think university dormitories are always separated by gender? Toilets? Bathhouses? Changing rooms?”
“Excellent. I constantly find myself in a compartment with three men on a night train and I can't say I feel psychologically comfortable.”
In fact, such a system has existed on Belarusian Railways for many years. Single-gender compartments are formed on some branded international trains. The principle is simple: if a woman is the first to buy a ticket for a free compartment, it automatically becomes a "women's" compartment, and the remaining seats are offered only to female passengers. Men's compartments are formed similarly.
At the same time, the ticket price does not change, and the service itself was introduced due to regular requests from passengers — most often women. However, this practice is not applied to all trains: on certain routes, there is a risk that seats in single-gender compartments might remain unoccupied.
