Around 8:00 AM, police received reports from residents about a drone crashing into Lake Drīdzis in Kambūļa parish, Krāslava district, detonating upon contact with the water. There were no casualties in the incident, writes Delfi.lv, citing LETA.

Police immediately went to the scene and began surveying the area. Possible drone debris was found.

Additional forces have been deployed for the work, including State Fire and Rescue Service personnel with a boat and units of the National Armed Forces, as well as additional police drones.

Police urge residents not to approach the incident site and to report any found debris.

Residents of eastern Latvia — Latgale and Vidzeme — have received notification system warnings related to drones approaching or entering Latvian airspace, likely connected to the Russia-Ukraine war.

In several cases, such drones have also exploded on Latvian territory, including an incident on May 7 at a little-used oil depot in Rēzekne.

Until now, no one has been injured in similar incidents, however, the recent incident in Rēzekne first led to the resignation of the Minister of Defense, and then the entire government led by Evika Siliņa.
