The President of Lithuania emphasizes that the Kremlin, by accusing the Baltic countries of allegedly providing Ukraine with territory to launch strikes on Russia, is simply trying to provoke them, writes Delfi.lt.
«Lithuania will defend itself, Lithuania will defend itself together with NATO countries if provocations come from outside. But Lithuania will never allow itself to be provoked or used in the interests of other states,» Nausėda stated.
«That is why I very clearly said that no objects intended for third countries or infrastructure, or for other purposes, for the destruction of other objects, can fly through the territory of Lithuania, because this is primarily related to the security of Lithuania itself,» he added.
Nausėda also said that the probability of drones flying in is increasing and will remain high in the near future.
The incident on Wednesday, when a red air raid alert was announced in Vilnius County, and residents had to seek shelter, revealed gaps in the preparedness of state institutions and public organizations for such situations, which need to be rectified.
«What we experienced today is a very good lesson. <…> We are obliged to learn it very well,» the president said on LRT.
He also called on residents to respond seriously and responsibly to air danger alerts.
