In May, the National Armed Forces of Latvia began deploying the first defensive barriers — the so-called "dragon's teeth" — near the border with Russia, writes "Meduza".
The law on the creation of defensive infrastructure was adopted by the Latvian Saeima in October 2025. However, about half of the territories planned for fortification were privately owned. To install the barriers, land plots had to be confiscated, and owners were promised compensation.
«Until the law on the creation of anti-mobility infrastructure was adopted, we had restrictions. We couldn't just come and start placing such barriers on civilian sector territories. Now this problem has been resolved», — said defense forces representative Andris Rieksts.
