The XXXV International Festival of Arts «Slavianski Bazaar» has officially started in Vitebsk. Events related to it have been taking place in the city for several days already, and the solemn opening ceremony took place on the evening of July 16 at the Summer Amphitheatre.

Before the start of the first concert, Alexander Lukashenka addressed the participants and spectators. In his speech, he noted that «Slavianski Bazaar» has always been not only a cultural event but also, as he put it, a peculiar reflection of the history of Belarus and the world.
During the opening ceremony, Lukashenka also presented the first festival awards. The Grand Prix of the children's music competition «Vitebsk» was awarded to Belarusian singer Lizaveta Tsupryk. The special award «Through Art — to Peace and Mutual Understanding» recognized Belarusian composer Leanid Zakhleўny and Russian composer Alexander Zatsepin. Incidentally, the latter turned 100 years old this March.
During the festival in Vitebsk, concerts, theatrical performances, exhibitions, and other cultural events will take place at dozens of venues throughout the city.
