Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov held talks with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo in Maputo on July 18.
The head of the Belarusian foreign ministry conveyed a personal message from Alexander Lukashenka to the Mozambican leader, inviting him to visit Belarus on an official visit. The invitation was gratefully accepted.
Daniel Chapo instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation to begin preparations and define the agenda for his visit, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Daniel Chapo is 49 years old; he was elected President of Mozambique in 2025, prior to that serving two terms as governor of Inhambane province.
In the elections held in 2024, he was a candidate from the ruling FRELIMO party, which achieved independence from Portugal in 1974.
Overall, Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in the world, with a GDP of 23 billion dollars per year (in Belarus, GDP for the past half-year was 149 billion rubles, approximately 52 billion dollars); half of the population lives below the poverty line.
