What to expect?
Thunderstorms are expected in the west of the country during the night and morning of August 4, with heavy downpours and squally winds with gusts of 15-20 m/s in places during thunderstorms, which is why an orange meteorological danger level has been issued.
However, due to the heat, red danger levels have been issued for the next three days (Tuesday – Thursday).
On Tuesday, the south of the country will see temperatures up to +35…+36°C. On Wednesday, the maximum air temperature across most of the country will reach +30…+34°C, in some places, and in many areas of the south – +35…+38°C.
On Thursday, August 6, the maximum air temperature in many areas will reach +35…+40°C.
In Belarus, there are four levels of meteorological danger: green (their complete absence, no rain, no significant winds), yellow (when there are small but insignificant threats – an increase (in winter – a decrease) in temperature), orange (a significant increase in temperature and heavy downpours), and finally red. This is when the heat can exceed 35 degrees.
On June 29, an absolute heat record was registered in Belarus for all 145 years of observations. A month ago, it was +40.4°C in Pinsk.
