Mother complained about injuries to her 5-year-old son in a Homiel psychiatric hospital. What did the doctors say?
The mother of a five-year-old boy with a disability stated on Threads that her son sustained injuries during treatment in Children's Psychiatric Department No. 7 of the Homiel Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital. The woman claims that after discharge, she noticed hematomas on the child's face and behind his ear. The hospital commented on the incident, confirming that the boy sustained a minor injury as a result of an altercation with another patient, writes Onliner.

The child was in the department from August 10 to 25, where his diagnosis was confirmed and treatment was selected. According to the mother, parents are not allowed to stay with their children in this department.
On the morning of August 25, before picking up her son, the woman called the hospital. She was informed that the previous night, another child hit her son on the cheek, leaving a bruise. However, upon arrival, the mother discovered hematomas on the child not only on his cheek, but also around his earlobe, behind his ear, and under his eye.
According to the woman, her son does not speak and could not explain what happened. She asked to invite the department management and provide the book of comments and suggestions. The mother wrote a complaint, but, according to her, she was unable to speak with the chief doctor or his deputy.
On the same day, the woman contacted the police and underwent a forensic medical examination with the child. She also sent an appeal to the Ministry of Health.
The mother claims that after discharge, she noticed changes in her son's behavior. According to her, the child began to cover his head during sudden movements, and also developed incontinence.
The hospital reported that an internal investigation had begun following the mother's appeal. The chief doctor of the institution, Alexander Titko, stated in a comment to "Gomelskaya Pravda" that final conclusions could only be drawn after its completion. A legal assessment of what happened, according to him, would be provided based on the results of the police investigation.
— According to available information, the incident with Anastasia's five-year-old son occurred in the department's hall in front of medical staff. As a result of impulsive and spontaneous behavior by another child, the boy sustained a minor injury. The children were immediately separated, and the conflict was stopped. The patient was immediately examined by specialists; there were no serious injuries. Throughout the subsequent treatment, the child maintained a satisfactory somatic condition, expressed no complaints, and his life was not in danger," clarified the chief doctor.
The hospital also explained that video surveillance is not conducted in the department, but patients are under the round-the-clock supervision of medical staff.
Regarding the joint presence of children with parents, the chief doctor referred to legislation. According to him, the hospitalization of patients is regulated by Article 25 of the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On Healthcare." The institution noted that it strives to limit the presence of outsiders in departments due to psychiatric safety requirements, patient confidentiality, and personal data protection.
The hospital's investigation and the police proceedings are ongoing.
