Horrific circumstances of the death of the former academic secretary of the Institute of History have become known. He was 45 years old
As «Nasha Niva» found out, neighbors left the unconscious historian Andrei Salauyanau to die in the elevator, having decided that he was drunk.

Yesterday, around 9 PM, Andrei Salauyanau — a historian, leading research fellow at the Academy of Public Administration under the President, and former long-time academic secretary of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus — was returning home.
He lived in Minsk in house 101A on Odoevsky Street, on the 16th floor, going up to his apartment by elevator — and there he felt unwell. Video from surveillance cameras shows Andrei falling to the floor. The man was unable to exit on his floor — and remained lying there.

Other residents of the house called the elevator — but when they saw their unconscious neighbor inside, instead of helping, they started to complain. They decided that the man was heavily drunk. They didn't want to ride with him, so they decided to call another elevator. And technically, to do that, they needed to send the elevator with Salauyanau to another floor. So they simply pressed a random button.
At that moment, a woman with a small child appeared in the entrance. She heard the outraged neighbors discussing «a drunk who fell asleep in the elevator.» They suggested that helping such people only causes problems, as an intoxicated person can be quite aggressive.
As a result, the woman with the child and another neighbor waited for the elevator with the person on the floor and called an ambulance.
When medics arrived, Salauyanau was still alive — when he was taken out of the elevator, the man was purple. They tried to resuscitate the historian in the entrance, but he died. The likely cause was a heart attack. As it turned out, Andrei was sober.
The scholar was only 45 years old. In 2003, he graduated from the Faculty of History of Vitebsk State University named after P. M. Masherov, then studied in postgraduate school at BSU. After its completion, he started working at the Institute of History of NASB, and from 2012 to 2022, he served as the academic secretary of this institution.
In 2022, he transferred to work at the Academy of Public Administration under the President, whose rector at the time was Viachaslau Danilovich, former director of the Institute of History of NASB. There, he held the position first as a senior, and later as a leading research fellow at the Research Institute of Theory and Practice of Public Administration.
