Lukashenka ordered to "thoroughly shake up" schoolchildren and "shake up" schools "at any cost"
Aliaksandr Lukashenka today received a report from Education Minister Andrei Ivanets.
Lukashenka noted that he had been on foreign business trips for about a week recently, and before that, his attention was focused on the progress of the harvesting campaign in the countryside. "It was impossible to ignore that. Therefore, it seemed as if school and university issues had receded into the background. But that doesn't mean I'm not aware of how things were shaping up with the start of the new academic year," he said.
Aliaksandr Lukashenka was dissatisfied with the physical training of schoolchildren. "The school is still underperforming in terms of physical development. Military personnel tell me that the contingent (those who join the army), although improved, has not improved much. We need to somehow, in terms of physical development, thoroughly shake up our youth, especially children of school age," he said.
Another reason for dissatisfaction was the renovation of educational institutions. The Minister of Education reported that all schools received readiness passports for the new academic year, and over three years, more than 300 buildings were thoroughly renovated.
"Whatever the cost, we need to completely shake up the schools and bring them to the state we would like to see them in," Lukashenka said.
