Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned airlines and insurance companies that continue to use Russian airspace and airports that Russian skies are becoming completely unsafe.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine does not intend to threaten civilian aviation or civilian aircraft. However, due to the war and the active use of drones, Russian airspace is effectively becoming increasingly dangerous for flights.
"Ukraine does not threaten civilian aviation as such — not a single civilian aircraft. It's just that there will be drones in the Russian sky, so this needs to be taken into account. Although the Russian authorities do not report this properly, the Russian sky will de facto be closed: the war unleashed by Russia is closing its sky," Zelenskyy asserts.
Ukraine urges ambassadors of foreign states working in Kyiv and Moscow to convey this information to their governments. This particularly concerns countries whose citizens fly to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other key Russian destinations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and other state structures intend to provide international organizations with full information about the risks to civilian aviation in Russian airspace.
"Civilian aviation has no place among drones," Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasizes.
