"Gazprom" has not abandoned plans to build an LNG plant in Belarus
Three years ago it became known that "Gazprom" plans to establish liquefied natural gas (LNG) production in Belarus. Denis Moroz, Minister of Energy of Belarus, spoke about the current stage of this project, writes Office Life.
According to the minister, work on the project continues. In particular, the location where the plant could be built is currently being discussed. Other details are not yet disclosed, but the signing of official contracts is expected in the near future.
The agreement on the construction of an LNG plant in Belarus was signed in 2023 at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum. However, in 2024, "Gazprom" reported that the implementation of the project was hindered by the lack of necessary legislation. It was proposed to solve the problem by locating the enterprise in a zone with a special legal regime — the China-Belarus Industrial Park "Great Stone".
It was planned that the Belarusian plant would be connected to a similar enterprise in the Volgograd region. The projected capacity of the complex was estimated at 3360 tons of LNG.
It was assumed that the main consumer of liquefied gas would be MAZ and BelAZ machinery. In addition, LNG was intended to be used for refueling vehicles on the M-1 highway, which connects Brest and Moscow.
