Russia and Ukraine exchanged strikes on energy facilities after Trump's words about an energy truce

Ukraine on Tuesday morning attacked an oil refinery in the Samara region, while a Russian drone hit a gas station in Kyiv. The attacks occurred several hours after US President Donald Trump stated that Moscow and Kyiv had allegedly agreed not to strike each other's energy facilities, as noted by "Agency".

Ukrainian drones damaged one of the industrial enterprises in the Samara region, reported the region's governor, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev. Ukrainian monitoring Telegram channels published photos and videos, which allegedly show fires at the attacked refinery in Syzran.

The Syzran oil refinery, according to Rosneft data, processes 6.1 million tons of oil annually. At the same time, the enterprise produces 2.1 million tons of diesel fuel, which means that Trump's Sunday statement, urging Kyiv to stop striking diesel fuel production in Russia, also went unheeded.

In Russia, in addition to the Syzran oil refinery, an Ozon warehouse in Taganrog was also attacked.

Russia on Tuesday night launched strikes on the Kharkiv region and Kyiv. In the capital of Ukraine, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, a drone hit a car gas station.

On Monday, the US President wrote on Truth Social that «Ukraine agreed not to strike Russian energy facilities, Russia agreed to do the same».

Later, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to stop strikes if partners can ensure Russia's refusal to attack Ukrainian energy, critical infrastructure, and food transportation routes. «Ukraine is not confident that Russia has the desire to comply with any agreements,» Zelensky reported.

During the recent talks in Moscow between the American delegation and Vladimir Putin, a decision on an energy truce was not made, a Russian source familiar with the course of the negotiations told "Agency".

The Financial Times noted that Trump's statement caught Ukrainian officials by surprise. An FT source, familiar with the Russian position, confirmed that Moscow and Kyiv have resumed discussions about a possible energy truce. However, the newspaper's interlocutors, familiar with the mood in the Kremlin, claim that Putin does not want to conclude such an agreement before winter.

According to them, Moscow expects that strikes on Ukrainian energy during the cold season will increase pressure on Kyiv and force it to make concessions.

During his visit to Ireland on Sunday, the US President stated that Ukrainian strikes on Russian diesel fuel production facilities «are harming the entire world». He stated that he had asked Zelensky to stop the strikes.
