The first magnetic storm of September has begun on Earth. According to data from scientists, it began on September 8 around 11:00 AM Minsk time.
The magnetic storm was predicted in advance after a plasma cloud, ejected by the Sun approximately three days ago, approached Earth.
The day before, the plasma that reached the planet caused prolonged geomagnetic disturbances of a yellow level. However, on September 8, the indicator exceeded the magnetic storm threshold.
An improvement in the geomagnetic situation is not expected for at least two days. During this period, magnetic storms of the second and third levels — from moderate to strong — are possible.
Due to increased geomagnetic activity, the boundary of the auroras has significantly shifted towards mid-latitudes. A strong outburst of the northern lights was observed on the evening of September 7. It is not excluded that it will be visible again on the evening of September 8.
Scientists remind that during magnetic storms, some weather-sensitive people may experience headaches, blood pressure fluctuations, and other health problems. People with hypertension, ischemic heart disease, and those who have previously suffered a stroke or heart attack may be more sensitive to such changes.
