Kolya went into the army, but where? Here's where Viktor and Dmitry Lukashenka served
Alexander Lukashenka claims that his youngest son is serving in the army 'like everyone else'. Where could Nikolai have been sent, and how did his older brothers serve?

Nikolai Lukashenka, it turns out, is already serving, and, according to his father, as a lieutenant in some particularly complex unit — although it is unclear when and where he could have completed military training to receive an officer's rank..
Alexander Lukashenka told journalists about his son's service on September 11.
"The youngest son is already serving in the army. No one even knew. Viktor Khrenin called him up. He serves in the army, as it should be, like everyone else. Lieutenant. I won't say where, but in the most difficult unit," Lukashenka stated.
He did not specify the exact place the youngest son was assigned to. But the Lukashenka family has its own military tradition: the father served in the border troops, and both older sons — in an elite special unit of border guards. At least, formally.
Father: political worker in border and motorized rifle troops
Alexander Lukashenka served in the Soviet army twice.
The first time was in 1975-1977, after graduating from the history faculty of Mogilev Pedagogical Institute. He was sent to the border troops, which at that time were part of the KGB of the USSR system. According to his official biography, Lukashenka was a political department instructor of a military unit of the Western Border District in Brest.
The second time he joined the army in 1980 and served until 1982. His official biography states the position of deputy company commander for political work.
Currently, Lukashenka holds the rank of reserve lieutenant colonel, although at military events he wears a special uniform of the supreme commander-in-chief with shoulder boards that visually resemble marshal's ones.
Viktor: OSAM, illegal migrants and a medal
The elder son Viktor Lukashenka graduated from the Faculty of International Relations of BSU in 1998. Initially, he worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and then joined the border troops.
From 1998 to 2001, Viktor served in the Separate Service for Active Measures — OSAM. This is an elite special unit of the border troops, specializing in combating terrorism, illegal migration, drug trafficking, and smuggling at the state border. He completed his service with the rank of captain.
The commander of the unit later recounted one episode of his service. According to him, near Grodno, Viktor participated in the apprehension of a group of illegal migrants and for this received a state award. The fact of the award itself is documented. By Decree No. 105 of February 23, 2001, Viktor Lukashenka was awarded the medal 'For Distinction in Guarding the State Border'.
After his service, Viktor returned to civilian structures, and in 2005 became his father's assistant for national security. Currently, he heads the National Olympic Committee.
Dmitry: secret unit and hockey during service
The middle son Dmitry Lukashenka followed almost the same path. In 2002, he graduated from the Faculty of International Relations of BSU with a specialization in 'international law' and immediately after university joined the army. Dmitry also served in OSAM, starting immediately with the rank of lieutenant.
In a TV program from the early 2000s, Dmitry described his day as follows: wake-up at seven in the morning, warm-up, breakfast, and departure for duty, which ended at 6 PM.

In one episode, Dmitry, wearing a tie, sits at a computer monitor and studies legislation on border protection.
"My specialty is civilian — an international lawyer. I chose this path because one must not break tradition: as you know, both my father was a border guard and my elder brother Viktor," he explained.
The program showed Dmitry playing hockey in the Ice Palace in the morning, calling it physical training in the unit. And in the evening, the Sports Palace was already cordoned off before a hockey match, in which Alexander, Viktor, and Dmitry Lukashenka went onto the ice together.

Later, Dmitry was promoted to captain. Like Viktor, he has the medal 'For Distinction in Guarding the State Border', as well as departmental badges 'Excellent Border Guard' of the first and second degrees. After the army, he headed the Presidential Sports Club.
Could Nikolai also have ended up in OSAM?
Such an option seems logical. Both his older brothers served in OSAM, and border service in the family biography is presented as a tradition started by their father.
Furthermore, Lukashenka called Nikolai's place of service 'the most difficult unit'. OSAM itself was for a long time presented by state propaganda as the elite of the border troops.
But there is an inconsistency. OSAM is part of the State Border Committee system, not the Ministry of Defense. Therefore, Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin should not directly 'conscript' people there.
Perhaps Lukashenka spoke of Khrenin in a broad sense, referring to military conscription in general. But it is also possible that Nikolai is serving in some unit of the Armed Forces, and not in the border guard special forces.
Or maybe in the Presidential Security Service?
Recently, Nikolai has appeared multiple times next to his father in a dark uniform and looked like one of the people from the Security Service. It is responsible for the protection of Lukashenka, other high-ranking officials, and state facilities.
Yes, in May 2026, Nikolai Lukashenka appeared at a training of forces involved in the use of nuclear weapons, in military uniform with a Security Service chevron.

Earlier, during a visit to Mongolia in 2024, he wore khaki clothing with the emblem of this service. However, Nikolai's official enrollment in the PSB was not reported.

And to get there, at least according to previously publicly stated rules, was impossible without military service. In 2014, the PSB reported that candidates were selected from men — citizens of Belarus aged 20-25 who had already completed conscript military service.
However, in the current Law 'On State Protection', such a requirement is not directly stipulated: it contains only general requirements, and the procedure for checking candidates is determined by the PSB itself.
Serves and continues to travel with father
In the summer of 2026, Nikolai completed a joint program of BSU and Peking University in biotechnology. Now, according to his father, he simultaneously serves and in his free time continues to pursue his specialty.
However, military service did not prevent him from accompanying Lukashenka abroad. In 2026, Nikolai was caught on camera several times during his father's foreign trips. The last such instance was the summit in Bishkek on August 31 – September 1.
A serviceman's travel abroad in itself does not contradict his service: he can be sent on an official business trip. If Nikolai serves in his father's security, such trips could be part of his duties.
