Attempted to import a car with an altered VIN from Poland to Belarus
At the Brest customs office, an attempt to import a SEAT Alhambra with an altered VIN number from Poland to Belarus was stopped. The car was being attempted to be processed as already registered in the EAEU territory to avoid paying customs duties, reports the press service of the State Customs Committee.
A 47-year-old Belarusian imported the car through the "Brest" border crossing point. During control, he presented a technical passport to customs officers, but the information in it did not match the actual marking of the car.
Customs officers drew attention to the metal plate with the VIN number under the hood. It was not fastened in a factory manner. Expertise confirmed that the vehicle's marking had been altered: part of the body panel with the original identification marks was removed and replaced with a homemade fragment.
The car, with an estimated value of more than 30 thousand rubles, was confiscated pending a court decision.
The Brest customs office initiated administrative proceedings under Part 2 of Article 15.1 of the Administrative Offenses Code. This article provides for a fine of up to 30 basic units, as well as possible confiscation of the vehicle.
In addition, a check is being conducted for signs of a crime under Article 381 of the Criminal Code of Belarus, which concerns the forgery, destruction of a vehicle's identification number or registration plates.
