Ales Bialiatski met with Gitanas Nausėda

On Monday, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda met with 2022 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski, who was released on Saturday. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya also took part in the meeting.

"We received with great relief the news that after many years of unjust imprisonment, you are finally free. Your resilience, moral strength, and unwavering commitment to human dignity – even in the most difficult times – inspire us all," said the president.

Gitanas Nausėda noted that Lithuania has always supported and will continue to support the efforts of the United States of America to free all Belarusian political prisoners. "Together, we consistently emphasize that the Belarusian regime must end all political repressions and not start new ones, that democratic, free, and fair elections must take place in Belarus, and that any support by the Lukashenka regime for Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine must be stopped," said the President of Lithuania.
