The explosion occurred around 7 AM in the courtyard of a residential building on Yasenevaya Street in southern Moscow. The victim was hospitalized in serious condition.
An assassination attempt on a high-ranking Russian military officer, 56-year-old Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, was carried out in Moscow, Russian Telegram channels report. The car of the Head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces was bombed on Yasenevaya Street.
The explosion occurred around 7 AM in the courtyard of a residential building. Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov got into his Kia Sorento car and started moving. According to preliminary investigation data, an improvised explosive device was planted under the bottom of the car directly under the driver's seat and detonated a few seconds after the start of movement.
The general had to be unblocked from the damaged interior by rescuers.
Sarvarov was hospitalized in serious condition, diagnosed with multiple shrapnel wounds and fractures.
Operational services are working at the scene, identifying the type and power of the explosive used.
Who is Fanil Sarvarov?
General Sarvarov holds a key position in the structure of the General Staff of the Russian Ministry of Defense. His directorate is responsible for organizing large-scale exercises and combat training of units.
He participated in the Ossetian-Ingush conflict, both Chechen wars, and the operation in Syria.
As the head of operational training, he is directly responsible for the combat readiness of troops participating in the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He is listed in the «Mirotvorets» database.
