Winners of the Ales Adamovich Award for 2024 Announced

The annual award honors the best non-fiction works that not only reflect acute contemporary problems but also embody the spirit of democracy, truth, and justice. The award encourages authors to speak out loudly on important topics and fight for the truth, just as its legendary founder did, reports "Budzma".

Several winners were honored this year:

for a humanistic understanding of the Belarusian prison experience from the perspective of children of repressed parents, the Ales Adamovich Award was given to Volha Vialichka and the book "From Two to Fifteen: My Mom in Prison" (publisher "Gutenberg Publisher");

for courage and empathy in conditions of discrimination and violence, a part of the book "The Body is Also an Archive" by Nasta Mantsevich (publisher "Pfliaumbaum") was honored.

The Ales Adamovich Award was established by Belarusian PEN a year after the death of its patron. It is a symbol of the literary and civic feat of a person who dedicated their life to the fight for human rights and freedom of speech. Since 2018, the founder of the Ales Adamovich Award has been the honorary chairperson of Belarusian PEN, writer, and Nobel Prize in Literature laureate Sviatlana Alexievich.
