In the morning, the man went to the garage to repair his car, but relatives were unable to contact him throughout the day.
In the evening, worried by his long absence, they went looking for the missing man and found him unconscious in a closed garage. Medics confirmed his death.
Experts have determined that the man's death resulted from acute carbon monoxide poisoning, reports the State Committee of Forensic Examinations.
When poisoned by it, a person does not feel the presence of the gas (it has no color, odor, or taste); headache, dizziness, nausea, weakness, confusion, and loss of coordination begin; in a closed room, the concentration of CO from car exhaust gases reaches a lethal level in 5-10 minutes. A person often does not realize the danger and loses consciousness, after which they can no longer help themselves.
Experts remind of the need to follow safety measures: never start a car engine in a closed garage, even if the gate is slightly open; ensure constant ventilation; do not stay in a garage with a running engine — if you need to warm up the car, drive it out into the open air.
